Thing #7 - Technology
I cannot believe how fast our world is changing. In 1996 when I entered college, I had never used email. Now it is almost obsolete. It is a bit scary how fast things come and go, but I guess it is a good thing. At times I feel like all this technology is somewhat evil and is making our lives too easy. How soon will it be before virtually all of our problems are solved by technology and we just lay around like blobs? I have realized that most of the new tools arriving everyday can serve a great purpose. Over winter break, I finally caved into pressure from friends to sign up for Facebook. I am actually quite impressed and am enjoying catching up and staying connected with several people. I just need to be open to trying new stuff. Otherwise I will end up like the old lady who was always asking how to program her VCR.

ReplyDeleteI have sometimes thought the same thing about technology - that it makes us lazy due to efficiency. However, I realize that the opposite is true as well. Think about how hard you have to work to catch up on e-mail, or to keep up on Facebook and other social networking sites. I enjoy keeping up with my friends, but going through the many e-mails that I get everyday seems to take up way too much time and it sometimes feels like it makes my job harder, even though I know that isn't true.
ReplyDeleteI just was introduced to facebook recently and it is fun, but my computer at home is slow so it is time consuming. I still don't know how to program my vcr!
